Hello folks,
Sorry, but this is an emergency rant. I've been playing low stake NL Hold 'em for about a year online. I'm not great, but I reckon I'm not the worst player out there by a long stretch.
I think I just met the worst player.
I've just come off a 10 player table at Titan Poker. 5c/10c blinds Hey, I'm not confident enough to bet much more.
So I'm on the small blind with Ah Jh and 3 or 4 new players have all joined the table, so there are already a lot of 10c blinds down. A couple of others check round to me.
So I reckon I should have a stab at the pot. I raise to 65c (because at 4BB on these low stake tables everyone just seems to call).
One other player calls.
The flop was 7h 8h As
So I have a nut flush draw, and the top pair with a decent kicker. Maybe this is where I made my mistake. I bet the minimum in the hope of disguising my hand (I figured if I checked, then called his bet, he'd know what I have.)
He raises to 70c.
Now I'm thinking maybe he has an ace, probably not 2 pair (because why would he have call me before the flop of he had A8 or something?), and I can't believe he's got the other 2 Aces.
Maybe he's flopped a set, but f*ck it.
I call.
Turn is Ac
So I have AAA and a nut flush draw. And I have a J as a kicker. I reckon I've won it, unless he's on a full house.
I make another small bet. He raises all in, for $3 or something.
I call. Sorry, but it's hard to muck a hand like that.
The river is 3c
7h 8h As Ac 3c
I have AJ
He shows 33 and wins with AA333.
Then he got up and left.
WTF????? |

| Happens all the time especially on the ipoker and prima networks and any loose online rooms. I have more fun playing live games at the local casino these days and stopped playing online. |

Tesseract!
Welcome to the world of bad beats. Yours certainly ranks up there. I mean, you got your money in with the best hand. The guy got his money in while he was behind, and he hit his 2-outer.
You could not have played the hand any better. He got lucky. Take a shot, reload and start over. You know he makes bad calls. Just wait for the opportunity to snipe your $$ back.
Nice hand. You played it well. You can't ask for more that that. |

Thanks for the replies. I had to get that off my chest.
Maybe I wouldn't have minded so much if the guy had stayed on and played. If he's going to raise and raise again with a small pair when EVERY single card up to the turn is an overcard, then I want to keep playing someone like that.
But the sod just left the table.
I'm through with these low limit tables. You're up against opponents who think their playing pontoon. And they NEVER fold.
I played a $5 Sit n Go today and won $30 for 2nd place, so that's a bit better. |

Tesseract,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for the post. I'm glad to hear about the Sit 'n Go win to certainly make up for that bad beat.
As you said, playing at that level you're going to run into players who are either playing on tilt looking to blow off some steam or simply don't know how to play very well. If it's any comfort, you made the right decision and 95% of the time he doesn't hit that 3 on the river.
As for him leaving the table right away, he was probably embarassed by the play and wanted to leave before he took the brunt of ridicule. Fortunately, you want this type of player at your table as, if he keeps up this level of play you'll certainly end up profiting.
Loose and inexperienced players are more plentiful online so you'll run into a higher number of bad beats. Fortunately, you'll also profit a lot more over the long run if you make the right adjustments. |

| I don't think it's embarassment. There seem to be a lot of these players floating around. They join, play like a maniac. Make a few bucks and split. Gets really annoying after a while. |

- EDIT - ok, yes I have just realised i posted a reply to a year old thread >_<
heh... I reckon I've seen some worse play, (although that is pretty terrible)I wasn't involved in the hand but was the first hand in a $5-10 sit and go, few people limped into the hand.
Flop comes 6 7 q (or something similar)
First person raises about 50
Second person re-raises to 150
Everyone else folds.
First person re-raises to 300
Second pushes all in for 1000
First calls
The first person flips over 23 (no flush draws on the table)
The second guy flips over kj (again no flush draws...)
king high holds up.... was hilarious |
