I just finished watching the inaugural episode on the Game Show Network tonight. It's a neat idea for a show, actually: film high-stakes cash games instead of the usual big tournaments. Players at the table with the $100,000+ bankroll included Doyle Brunson, Daniel Negreanu, and others. It was interesting overall but definitely too many commercials and the usual uninteresting GSN announcers. Still, I'll give it another shot next Monday. Did anyone else catch it?

I love it, as much for the entertainment value as for the poker:
- Sheiky vs. Todd Brunson
- Deeb "going south"
- seeing how much Negraneau will eventually lose (or will he make a miracle comeback)
- seeing what an ass Stupkak is
- seeing what an ass Hellmuth is
- the general banter around the table that you don't hear in a tournament

Totally! I've been hooked on it the last few weeks and tape it to watch right afterwards and skip the commercials. While television shows rarely have time for the unconfrontational and inconsequential hands that are the meat of a poker game, this program does portray cash games pretty realistically. By the way, I take back my jab at the announcers - I've actually taken a liking to Gabe Kaplan's dry humor. Is Sean Sheikhan not the most annoying player in poker? I mean, I was already disliking him after watching the WSOP this year, but it's torture that they still allow him into these games... Wink

Not a big deal about the spelling - it's tough to remember all these names. It was Daniel Negreanu and Gus Hansen if you're curious. That was an amazing hand! Daniel hit a set of 6s on the flop and Gus hit a set of 5s. The turn was another 5 and the money got in on the river. And we thought that WE get beats? It was paining to see Daniel get sucked out on time after time in that episode after he flopped the nuts.

Has anyone caught the first two new episodes of High Stakes poker at GSN. It has been enjoyable to watch. I am not a big fan of Jamie Gold, but he seems to be holding his own and adapting to a high cash ring game. In the second episode (this week's) Gabe Kaplan and Daniel Negranue switched places and Kaplan was playing and Negranue was doing commentary. Mr. Kotter (Kaplan for those of you not old enough to remember) made a couple of nice bluffs...including getting Mike Matasow to lay down the best hand (a pair of aces) on the river.
