An obvious advantage of playing online poker is the fact of being able to play from your own home. This also gives you numerous advantages. This advantages along with many others is what made this game so popular online.
The convenience of playing at home and not at a land based casino is the number one reason for its recent popularity. All you need to do is become a member at one of the many online poker sites available and sign in anytime you feel you can conquer the online poker world.
There’s no need to waste money by driving to the casino or paying at the parking lot. You don’t have to worry about crowds or space at a table. All you need to worry is about your game and your computer.
All you have to do is look for a table that adjusts at your budget. You can play at your own pace without all the hassles that come when you play at a land based casinos. There are hundred of sites that offer low stakes poker games to people that are just starting.
One big advantage is the fact of being able to concentrate more intensively. At a land based casino you have to deal with other players, the dealer and any other distraction or noise in the background. When you play online, you set your own environment! Obviously this gives you a much higher chance of being successful.
Never wait in line for another table, that’s one more advantage for you. The final truth is that online poker is a dream come true to thousands of players from around the world.

Hi Percy,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for your helpful first post.
I couldn't agree more with your points about online poker. Although it is still a fun experience (and still a necessary one if you want to play in the biggest tournaments) to actually play live poker, I've really been preferring to stay online these days. As you said, you set your own environment and allow for as many distractions as you'd like.
Also, as you said, you can play types of games (i.e. Sit 'n Gos, microlimits, and heads-up ring games) that simply wouldn't be feasible at a brick-and-mortar cardroom. Besides, many live in areas where casinos simply don't exist. For them, online poker is definitely the best option. Even though we have several Indian Reservation casinos/cardrooms in my area it is at least a 15-20 drive to any of them. Why not stay in with my wife and lounge on the couch instead while I play?
While you can never replicate the unique experience of tossing in chips, peeking at your cards, and seeing your opponents across the table there are so many advantages to playing online that I've largely come to prefer it.
