Poker Movies and DVDs
This section details poker movies and
DVDs that we've watched or feel are worthy of inclusion. One of the
advantages of poker movies is that most of them try to give us a
glimpse of the poker world behind the lights and glitziness of
today's televised tournaments. The fact is that poker is gambling.
While online games are relatively problem free, cardroom poker (and
especially high-stakes poker) has its own criminal underbelly full
of all sort of addicts. This is one reason why there have been
enormous amounts of raids on underground poker clubs as of late.
Sure, we all want to see poker legalized
around the country but unfortunately, much of our law enforcement
and legislators have only seen the moral-free illegal
drug-dealer-run clubs. What the higher-ups should realize is that if
poker was legalized there wouldn't be a need for these type of
clubs. The government would not only receive enormous tax benefits,
but they could regulate the establishments to make sure that players
receive a fair game...
Anyway, enough of that rant. These
are fun movies to pick up from the Wal-Mart bin or rent from Netflix
so take a look at our reviews to get an idea of the basic plot and
our opinions. I'll also add a section for poker strategy DVDs
shortly. To keep them from being too poker-centric, I'm also having my beautiful girlfriend give you her
critique from a non-poker-player's perspective.
