Bon Voyage, Empire Poker
February

This week, Empire Online
(the parent company of brands such as Empire Poker)
announced that they had settled their ongoing lawsuit
with PartyGaming (who owns Party Poker and related
gambling sites). If you recall, Empire had launched a
civil suit against PartyGaming for removing the site
from its network and software upgrades back in October
of last year. Empire’s stock plummeted, although its
secondary brands continued to perform well.
The terms of the settlement include PartyGaming buying
out Empire Poker for roughly $250 million. Empire has
issued an e-mail statement to players claiming that
their player accounts won’t be affected. My guess is
that PartyGaming will rejoin players once again on the
Party Poker network. We’ve seen this pattern over the
last few months: PartyGaming crushing any skins and
competition by throwing lots of cash at them. We will be
removing Empire Poker from our site soon, and we plan to
re-review CD Poker, who is now owned by Empire Online.
