POKER NEWS - FOX SPORTS ANNOUNCES $60M TOURNAMENT

Fox Sports Announces New "Pokerdome" Series

December 15, 2005

While the details are somewhat sketchy, Fox Sports has signed on to host a (WOW!) $10,000,000 buy-in shorthanded poker tournament. This would be a winner-take-all event with 6 players competing. There are plans to air this tournament live in May 2006. We'll keep you updated on this event as more details come out.

The first confirmed entrant is Phil Ivey, and this is a huge buy-in even for professional players. The $60,000,000 prize pool would be the biggest award in the history of sports. This should be an exciting watch, and I hope that Fox gets some decent ratings for this to show them that they should add some more poker programming besides the excellent Poker Superstars series. Fox plans to increase the stakes to $80M and then $100M over the next two years as well as creating the "Pokerdome", a specially designed venue, for the events.
