Matt Savage Lends Credibility to
Possible New Production
January 8, 2006
Matt
Savage, tournament director for the
World Series of Poker, has signed on
with a new project calling
themselves the "North American Poker
Tour". While details are sketchy at
this point, we can probably assume
that this will be another
second-rate regional TV series that
features lower buy-in events for
mostly amateurs.
Savage has also been working with
the Small Town Poker Tour, which
will focus on charity tournaments
around the country. Each event will
be televised for future syndication.
Charity tournaments and amateur
events? Maybe I’m unique, but who
the heck cares about some Podunk
town’s $20 buy-in charity game for
the local preschool? I’m all for
raising money for charity, but why
does it need to be shown on
television?
Personally, when I watch poker on TV
it’s to see proper production
featuring savvy plays made by the
pros. I don’t really have an
interest in watching a bunch of
local players take online-esque
stabs at each other with 6-2 offsuit.
Again, that’s just my opinion but
these regional shows are just silly
to me. There are plenty of good
poker shows like the WSOP, WPT, and
Poker Superstars to keep me busy for
the week.
