Authorities Raid Underground Poker Clubs in
New York
November 24, 2005
In
another ridiculous move by
authorities in New York, more raids
took place this week in order to
shut down underground New York poker
clubs. Both poker club owners and
patrons were taken away in
handcuffs, and charges were to be
filed. Yankees star Alex Rodriguez
was said to frequent these clubs,
and has been asked by team
management to stay away. Why
couldn't he have been one of the
ones dragged away in handcuffs?
It would be nice if police would focus
half the energy they spend on shutting down poker clubs and
penny-bet senior poker nights on homicides or other violent crimes.
Or perhaps they could legalize poker clubs and regulate them, thus
generating plenty of tax revenue and ensuring that the game is fair
for all players. Poker is going to be played regardless of these
increasing raids, so why not just legalize it and avoid this taboo
nonsense? Oh, well - that is a subject for another rant another
day...
