New Report Shows Increase in Online
Poker Popularity
December 27, 2005
I love
to see news like this because it
slaps the "Poker's just a fad"
idiots in the face. A recently
released study by a marketing firm
shows that total wagers in online
poker increased to over $60 Billion
this year. That's a staggering
amount and it shows that poker,
especially online poker, still has
room to grow. Projections shows
massive increases in the next 2-3
years both in terms of new player
signups and revenues.
The fact
is that poker has been "popular" for
centuries and it is has been
flooding mainstream popular culture
for about the last 3 years. Many are
quick to discount it as a "fad" or
just the big thing "right now". If
you actually look at the numbers,
online poker is still growing in
terms of new players. It's popular
because it's an easy method of
potentially winning money while
playing against real opponents.
Besides that, as long as there are
guys like Moneymaker and Raymer
winning millions of dollars on TV
from cheap internet satellites new
players will continue to flood the
online poker market.
