"Poker Brat" Ties Chan and Brunson
with 10 WSOP Wins
August 4, 2006 (written by Beat The Fish)
If most
people love to see Phil Hellmuth,
the "Poker Brat", lose then he made
a lot of poker fans unhappy this
past week when he captured his 10th
overall win at the 2006 World Series
of Poker. Hellmuth has actually had
a great WSOP this year making
several final tables but up until
this point failing to win that
elusive 10th bracelet.
The win
came in Event 34 - the $1,000 buy-in
No-Limit Hold'em with Rebuys event.
With 754 players creating an
already-massive prize pool the
rebuys brought the total pot to over
$2.3 million. Phil Hellmuth survived
the insanity that is inherent to
rebuy events and ousted Juha Helppi
heads-up to take first place and
$631,000.
With the
latest World Series win, Phil
Hellmuth now has 10 total bracelets
tying him with Doyle Brunson and
Johnny Chan for most all-time. Both
Brunson and Chan won their 10th in
last year's World Series. Collecting
the most overall WSOP wins has been
a personal goal for the
self-promoting Hellmuth and he looks
to be making a run at the masters
for this record.
Unfortunately, this one won't be
televised by ESPN.
