wins $500,000

Ted
Forrest captured the 2nd Annual NBC
Heads-Up Poker Championship this
week, outlasting 63 of the top names
in poker and winning the $500,000
first place prize money. This
invitation-only event took place at
the newly reopened Caesar’s Palace
poker room in Las Vegas. The
tournament was structured in a
similar fashion to the NCAA
Basketball tournament with 64
players engaging in heads-up
elimination matches until someone
was crowned champion.
Other names in the tournament
included last year’s winner Phil
Hellmuth, Doyle and Todd Brunson,
Phil Ivey, Chip Reese, Barry
Greenstein, Greg Raymer, Gus Hansen,
and a slew of top-notch
professionals. Surprising early
exits included Phil Ivey (who was
the favorite to win the event), Gus
Hansen, and Doyle Brunson. The
“Final Four” consisted of Chris
“Jesus” Ferguson, Sean Sheikhan,
Huck Seed, and Ted Forrest. Ferguson
ended up losing 2 out of 3 final
matches against Forrest to take his
second-straight runner-up finish.
NBC will air several hours of
footage beginning on April 18.
