Mike Simon Wins WPT Title and over
$1,000,000
April 1, 2006 (written by Beat The Fish)
This
past week, the World Poker
Challenge's $5,000 Main Event was
decided and since this was a World
Poker Tour stop, you can spoil the
action unfolding on television by
continuing to read our column.
Despite having only a $5,000 buy-in
(half of typical major tournament
buy-ins), the prize pool amounted to
nearly $3,000,000 and first place
with take over $1,000,000 and an
entry in the WPT Championship. This
$25,000 event takes place at the
Bellagio following the next event.
Most of
the talk was on the crowd favorite
Barry Greenstein, who was dominating
the tournament leading up to the
final six. The famously generous
cash game specialist was actually
knocked out first at the recorded
final table, netting him less than
$100,000. Mike Simon, who doesn't
have a significant tournament
history, ended up capturing the
title and, of course, first place
prize money. Here is how the final
six shaped up:
1. Mike
Simon - $1,050,000
2. Jason
Stern - $530,000
3. Tom
Schneider - $260,000
4. Greg
Mueller - $140,000
5. Jonas
Norman - $110,000
6. Barry
Greenstein - $90,000
