Darrell Dicken Wins My Hometown WSOP
Circuit Event
March 14, 2006 (written by Beat The Fish)
As we
get nearer and nearer to the 2006
World Series of Poker at the Rio in
Las Vegas, Circuit events take place
about once per month under the
Harrah’s banner. Winners of these
events also receive a ticket to the
WSOP Tournament of Champions
freeroll to take place after the
Main Event. Event #9 took place just
outside of my hometown of San Diego
at our local Harrah’s establishment.
As always, the buy-in was $10,000
and, unfortunately, the number of
entrants only just topped 100 to
109. This left over $1,000,000 up
for grabs, which is somewhat slim
compared to today’s largest
tourneys. I’m not sure why more of
the pros don’t turn up for these
Circuit events. Anyway, I recognized
Andy Bloch who came in 7th and Kathy
Liebert (who played on Fox’s Poker
Superstars) came in 3rd.
Darrell
Dicken, who apparently has some
decent finishes under his belt, took
the tournament title and $372,000.
This tournament will probably be
broadcast on ESPN in the summer.
