Quick Tips for Online Poker
The following is a list that we've put
together that contains our favorite quick tips for playing a
well-rounded online poker game. While these may seem obvious and
simplistic, it's amazing at how little we pay attention to the
fundamentals at time. If you're having trouble with your online
poker game lately, take a look back at these tips and vow to stick
to them in each of your following sessions as it really can make a
difference.
I was in a pretty bad slump for about a week or two a
while back, and I picked up my copy of Super System 2 to try and
look for something that I could focus on to help turn around my
game. I saw a little quote from Mike Caro that stuck with me. It
went something like, "All you can ever do at the poker table is make
good decisions".
While that seems like one of those greeting
card-like motivational quotes that you gloss over, I kept it in my head throughout my
next couple of sessions. While you can't always control bad beats
with good decisions, it did help to get me back on track.
If you're forgetting to use any one of
the following
quick tips, try incorporating it into your next playing session:

1) Always pay attention to your cards
and position before acting. Position is power, especially in Hold
'em where the button (last position) is the place you want to be.
2) Study your opponents and their
playing styles, as it will help you when you're up against them in a
future pot. Don't hesitate to take advantage of the
3) Play at the right table for you. If
it isn't right for you, find a new table.
4) Don't get distracted. If you're
checking your e-mail or watching TV, you won't pick up on the
maniacs and calling stations at your table.
5) If you aren't winning by playing
multiple tables, stick to one table for now.
6) Don't play over your bankroll. If you
only have $50 to play with, don't sit down at a $3/$6 NL game.
7) Don't go on tilt. A few minutes of
tilt-age can cost you hours worth of winnings. At a no-limit table,
it could turn a big winning session into a losing session.
8) RELAX! I get my Aces cracked by 6-3 offsuit, too. It sucks, but it happens - especially online where
people play hands like that more often. Be nice to the fish as
they're the ones who will usually pad your wallet.
9) Don't forget that another hand is
coming in 2 minutes. Don't lament over the last hand - make this one
count. The only thing you should be worrying about is making good
decision at every opportunity.
10) HAVE FUN! It's better for your blood
pressure, and you'll probably play better, too.
