WSOP SCHEDULE FOR 2008

The 2008 World Series of Poker Schedule

Once again, last year's WSOP proved that the enormous growth of poker seen in the last several years has been no fluke. Over 54,000 entrants bought into 55 bracelet events, which are both records in the largest total field in WSOP history.

Despite a 2,400 player drop in the Main Event, poker's biggest tournament still amassed a whopping $8.25 million for winner Jerry Yang. A native of Laos, Yang is 39 years old, lives in Temecula, CA, is married with six children, and works in psychology. If early appearances hold true, this World Champion will be a humble and likeable ambassador for the game.

Listed below is the complete 2008 WSOP schedule. Harrah's hopes to improve on several perennial shortcomings including lack of indoor space for tournaments, uneven starting days, questionable in-game decisions, and overall poor accommodations for players. Last year, tempers flared when several professionals almost staged a massive boycott in protest of the playing conditions. This year, WSOP commissioner Jeffrey Pollack has done away with the "poker tent" and promises better conditions.

The 2008 WSOP schedule includes 55 events which matches last year's total. The most interesting change is in the number of $10,000 championship events. In addition to the Main Event once again ending the WSOP there will be 7 other $10,000 events ranging from Pot Limit Hold'em to a Mixed Event featuring a whopping 8 poker variations.

The popular $50,000 HORSE event will return for its third year. Consisting of 5 different limit games and an enormous buy-in, the HORSE championship filters out internet newbies and is largely considered by the pros to be the new crown for the overall best player in poker. It remains to be seen if the new Mixed Event will gain that same reverence.

The 2008 WSOP schedule once again features 4 Main Event starting days which can be chosen by the player if there are adequate seats available. To spread out the massive influx of eager players, Event 2, the first $1,500 No Limit Hold'em event, will also have 2 starting days. Nightly $1,060 satellites will take place at 9PM beginning May 28 and nightly $340 No Limit events will be at 7PM.

The 2008 WSOP will begin on May 30, 2008 and run until July 16. Players can pre-register for events at the Rio's main cage beginning in February. The full 2008 WSOP schedule has been released and is listed in full below.
