World Series of Poker (WSOP) 1970s Winners

The inaugural World Series of Poker was held in 1970 and was organized by a handful of legendary poker players and Jack Binion at the Horseshoe. Due in large part to Amarillo Slim's victory in 1972 and subsequent extreme self-promotion, the event gained the nation's attention. Unfortunately, it would be another 30 years until modern technology and enormous prize money truly displayed to the public how great the game of poker is. Other highlights include Doyle Brunson, arguably the best poker player ever, winning back-to-back events in '76 and '77.
