Schedule for WSOP 2020 $10,000 Buy-In Championship Events Is Out

For all poker lovers around the world, the World Series of Poker schedule is the most important piece of information they can get at the start of a new year. Regarding this, there is some good news — World Series of Poker schedule for $10,000 Buy-In championship events has been released.

Additionally, the money won’t be all there is to win this year, since the five-figure online bracelet event will have its debut, together with 15 freezeouts.

Choose from 17 $10,000-$50,000 Championship Tournaments

The official information from the World Series of Poker is that there will be 17 Championship tournaments for which the buy-ins are, by definition, worth $10,000 or more per tournament. In 2020, the players will have an opportunity to take part in 16 tournaments with $10,000 buy-ins and one $50,000 Poker Players Championship.

The structure and the dates for the tournaments are now familiar, featuring 24 different poker variants. There will also be a $10,000 buy-in online event added to the usual WSOP program.

The $10,000 Championship Tournaments have, together with the Main event, always played a vital role in the WSOP system. While it is true that the number of players is not as big as at lower buy-in events, it is also important to mention that some of the most popular professional poker players in the world choose to be part of these tournaments.

The WSOP Vice President, Jack Effelfter, sounded quite excited about the release of the schedule:

“The Championship Events are always among the most special offered at the WSOP each year. We are proud to be the only tournament series that spreads such an offering and have worked with some of the most distinguished players this off-season to ensure our schedule and the events themselves align well with where poker is in 2020.”

What Is Different in WSOP 2020 $10,000 Championship Schedule?

One of the changes that immediately draw the attention of all the regular players is the absence of the $10,000 no-limit hold’em heads-up event. Although there is a possibility that this event will be included in the schedule and published separately from other $10,000 events, for the time being, it is gone from the list.

Another change for this year’s WSOP schedule has to do with the Poker Players Championship. In recent years, the standard shape of the event has been an 8-game format with a HORSE rotation, together with no-limit hold’em, pot-limit Omaha and 2-7 triple draw.

This year, all the games will still be there but a no-limit 2-7 single draw will be added to the mix.

WSOP 2020 Championship Will Have a Separate Leaderboard

This year, apart from the money prizes, the WSOP organizers have prepared some treats for high-stakes players. All of the players who take part in the Championship events will have their name put on a special leaderboard designed particularly for this purpose.

The structure of this leaderboard will be similar to the one for the Player of the Year, and the potential prizes are believed to be more than great.

Seth Palansky, the WSOP’s VP of Corporate Communications, hasn’t yet released any details regarding the leaderboard or specific prizes.
